About the Project

LOCATION:

502 E. Washington
Madison, Wis.

502 E. Wash, a ’boutique apart-hotel’ was a concept to meet the needs of travelers who plan to stay for five to 28 nights. The small (less than a quarter acre) site was projected to offer up to 60 rooms, with guest room options ranging from 300 s.f. studios up to 1,200 s.f. two-bedroom suites. All rooms were designed to feature functional kitchenettes and comfortable living spaces. All guests also have access to secure below-grade parking.

JLA’s designers set out to create a clean, contemporary aesthetic consistent with many other new structures in the area. A clean, box form comprised of four stories visually floats over its glass podium base that features hardwood accents.  The primary building entrance was designed to be at grade with the East Washington sidewalk and clearly visible for enhanced security and to encourage a more pedestrian-friendly experience.

PROGRAM:

Demolishing three existing structures, relocation of an additional structure

45 extended stay rooms

Five-story with underground parking

Mixed-use retail on first floor
