About the project

YAHARA COMMONS

Monona Riverfront Redevelopment site plan

Yahara Commons is a partnership between Galway Companies, McGann Construction, and JLA Architects. The team submitted a proposal and master plan for the site and were selected by the City of Monona. “The Current” was completed in June 2019 and brought 96 market rate apartments, office space, retail, and food and beverage providers. Anchor tenant, Buck & Honey’s, is a two-level restaurant with event space that opens onto “Grand Crossing” a new public park. JLA also moved it’s Madison office into “The Current” in November 2019.

Adjacent to the park is the City of Monona’s “Below Deck” concessions stand that provides public restrooms and skate rental.  The city operates an ice rink “Monona Bank River Rink” in the winter months. In the summer, kayak rentals and water access are available as well as a stage for events.  JLA is currently working on the final phase of the redevelopment;  a 140–160 unit apartment building. It will complete the frontage to Bridge Road and have a large green roof on axis with the public park extending the feel of the urban greenspace.
