22 Slate | Multifamily development | Madison, WI | Designed by JLA Architects

22 Slate

Overview

Located within the American Center Business Park on Madison’s far east side, 22 Slate addressed the need for housing in this underutilized area, with seven buildings offering a total of 264 units ranging from studios to 3-bedrooms. The design concept for 22 Slate’s facades was to respect the local character of the area (being very near the Sun Prairie border) while adding modern design elements and colors to expand the modern character you might expect to see on revitalized Highway 151/East Washington corridor. The design promotes high quality aesthetics and craftsmanship that can be seen throughout the development.

The apartments promote community living and healthy lifestyles with their unique amenities including dog run areas and dog washing stations, large green spaces including community gas grills and an outdoor fire pit, as well as a pool, 24-hour fitness center, and community club house. Several walking paths were also integrated throughout the project site encouraging connections to the adjacent public park. The masterplan for the site also promotes efficiency in design to maximize the amount of green space and stormwater infiltration on site, not only decreasing the environmental impact this project has on the surrounding area but also providing several community green spaces to be utilized by the residents.
