Overview
Located south of Ikea in Oak Creek, Prado is part of the Creekside Crossing Marketplace development. The four-story market-rate apartment building – with 142 units and underground parking – is part of a 22.6-acre mixed-use development spearheaded by Northwestern Mutual.
Its distinctive exterior design is reminiscent of prairie-style architecture, with exceptionally tall windows, deep roof overhangs, open floorplans, and emphasis on horizontality with interchanging bands of brick, stone, and fiber cement siding. Several key exterior details were preserved that accentuate the overall design, such as the lantern motifs at the corners. Completing the exterior design is the “peeling back” of the four corners at the fourth floor, allowing for a design that maximizes natural light into interior spaces and reduces the verticality of the overall building.
On the interior, the influence of the prairie style is honored through rich earth tones, intentional use of stone and wood elements, custom millwork, thoughtfully designed ceilings, and curated furniture, further enhancing the prairie elements. The influence is strong in the common areas and deconstructs to a simpler palette within the units. Custom-colored carpeting was installed throughout the main corridors, with each floor carrying its own unique color for wayfinding. The dwelling unit flooring on the upper three floors was upgraded to minimize noise from floor to floor. The unit backsplash continues the subtle nod to the prairie influence through its unexpected, tint of color, as it complements the neutral, airy finish palette.
