Overview
Velo Village, named after the French word for bicycle, is seamlessly integrated into the Ballpark Commons entertainment and sports district just outside of Milwaukee. JLA’s planners designed the greater development’s master plan which includes a baseball stadium, sports related retail and office space, as well as MOSH Performance Center, an indoor sports facility which houses a Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital clinic (MOSH Performance Center). Through a collaborative planning process, the master plan of Velo Village’s five buildings and clubhouse was developed to maximize connections to the amenities of Ballpark Commons and the adjacent Oak Leaf Trail.
The exterior architecture is comprised of a rich, dark color palette of high-quality materials provides variety to the five multifamily buildings. The robust amenity package considers the surrounding active lifestyle community and offers several amenities for the avid bicyclist. The themed amenity spaces were carefully curated to stimulate energy through a sophisticated color palette and unique bicycle-related elements. The resulting bespoke design combined market-specific needs with signature, themed amenities and was well-positioned to be the top choice for apartments in the greater Milwaukee suburbs. The community moved toward stabilization very quickly, its 265 apartments hit 100% lease-up just one month after construction was complete. This was 14 months ahead of schedule, and a record for any of the client’s apartment communities. Proper planning and strong relationships between the project partners overcame the two-fold challenge of construction and leasing in the winter months and during the pandemic.
