Sarah Carvalho Joins JLA Denver as a Senior Project Specialist
DENVER — JLA Architects is proud to announce that Sarah Carvalho has joined our Denver office. As a senior project specialist, she will provide support to our project teams in all phases of a project from design through construction administration. Originally from Brazil, Sarah has over 15 years of experience designing in a variety of market sectors in both Brazil and the U.S., including residential, retail, mixed-use/multifamily, and industrial.
“We are excited to welcome Sarah to our growing Denver office. The versatility and experience she brings will elevate our team and bring additional value for our Colorado based clients,” explains Vice President & Denver Office Director Erik Jansson.
When asked why she chose JLA, Sarah explained: “I loved and missed the early years of my career working on residential & multi-family spaces. This type of project brings a lot of opportunity to problem solve which is something I like to do. I was also very impressed with the culture of JLA—everyone was welcoming, and I was sold!”
Carvalho holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Urbanism from the University of Paraíba Valley, in São Paulo, Brazil. She holds her architecture license in Brazil and is currently pursuing licensure in the U.S.

We asked Sarah about her passion for architecture and community. Read on for our interview-
What drew you to architecture as a career?
I have always been very visual and artistic, as a kid I loved to draw. I believe I decided to be an architect at age of 13.
What’s your favorite (or most unique) project you’ve worked on?
Designing my brother’s house is and was a very special project to me.
What do you do for fun? Any hobbies or special interests?
I am a painter (canvas). I paint abstractions and I have shown my work in a couple art exhibits in Tennessee, while living there. Also, I get occasional commissions here and there, mostly through friends.

Are you involved in the community?
I am new to Denver, so not yet, but I love animals and plan on joining some volunteering activities related to dogs here soon!
