Jeff Rath Joins JLA Architects’ Denver Office

DENVER — JLA Architects is proud to announce that Jeff Rath has joined their Denver office. As BIM/CAD Manager, he will oversee and advise on JLA’s use of architectural software from general usage efficiencies to detailed content creation. His role also involves collaborating with internal teams and external project partners, to not only mentor on best practices but to ensure team members are efficient.

A chance encounter with the famous architect Art Gensler led Jeff to focus on his computer skills, which were regarded as a specialty skillset as programs like AutoCAD were just emerging.  Jeff’s 34 years of experience have allowed him to hone his software expertise working for various firms specializing in education, civic, corporate, and multi-family housing.

“We are happy to welcome Jeff to the JLA team. As he supports project workflow, Jeff will be a great asset to the team.  Ultimately, Jeff’s efforts will position us to better serve our clients as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our documents,” explains Vice President & Director of Architectural Operations, Adam Fredendall.

Rath holds a Bachelor of Architecture Studies from the University of California – Berkley.

Learn more about Jeff

We sat down with Jeff to learn more about him and his passion for architecture. Read on for our interview –

What drew you to architecture as a career?

I was playing in a band with a blues artist, and he told me about his day job as a draftsman for a mechanical engineer. Since I had an art background, I figured I could learn drafting, and when I was in school, I realized that I could get a bachelor’s in architecture.

What’s your favorite (or most unique) project you’ve worked on?

I have worked as a CAD manager, BIM manager, Architectural Designer, Architectural illustrator, and more. I have enjoyed seeing my work published in newspapers and magazines. Software companies often use images of my work to promote their products—which is pretty cool to see. I also have been CAD manager and now BIM manager for decades and I have coordinated a switch from one software to another for several firms.

Any hobbies/interests you’d like to share?

I am into organic gardening and hiking.  I am also a musician, and I make my own musical instruments.

Are you involved in the Denver community?

My wife and I spend time each month volunteering and supporting various local organizations.
