Jordan Byers, Project Manager at JLA Architects

Jordan Byers Joins JLA as a Project Manager

MADISON — JLA Architects is pleased to welcome Jordan Byers as a Project Manager in our Madison office. With nearly a decade of experience in architectural design and project management, Jordan will oversee a variety of projects, leveraging his expertise in leading cross-functional teams, mentoring, and problem-solving to bring clients’ visions to life. Although he will be based in the Madison office, he will regularly collaborate with team members at all three of JLA’s offices.  He’ll work collaboratively with our clients, consultants, and project teams to guide them through all phases of the architectural process, from conception to occupancy.

Jordan’s career has included roles at prominent design-build firms, where he honed his expertise in leading cross-functional teams to ensure collaboration between architects, engineers, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle. His experience in the field has provided invaluable insights into the practical challenges and limitations encountered during the building process. This allows him to anticipate and mitigate potential construction issues early in the design phases, leading to more efficient and cost-effective projects. Jordan’s technical proficiency includes mastery of tools like Revit and Lumion, as well as in-depth knowledge of building codes and specifications.

“We are excited to bring Jordan into our team of project managers,” said Vice President / Madison Office Director Leah Teske. “His previous experience and approach to leading projects make him a strong fit for JLA’s culture.”

A graduate of Madison College’s Architectural Technologies program, Jordan later contributed to the architectural community by participating in advisory roles for Madison College’s architectural program.

What drew you to architecture? What do you love about it?

I was part of a large family where creativity and hands-on work were part of daily life. I’ve always been fascinated by how things were built. Whether it was assembling a piece of furniture or watching a structure take shape. This curiosity naturally led me to woodworking and construction as hobbies, giving me a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and the process of creating something tangible. Over time, I realized that architecture combines everything I love: problem-solving, creativity, and the opportunity to shape spaces that impact people’s lives.

What’s your favorite (or most unique) project you’ve worked on and why?

One of my favorite projects I’ve worked on was a historic pool renovation. The project came with unique challenges of preserving the site’s legacy while staying within strict budget constraints. To address this, the team got creative with re-purposing the existing thickened pool walls. They became more than structural remnants transforming them into functional design elements, like the reception countertop, locker room benches, and a memorial wall. This approach allowed the team to honor the historical character of the site while giving it a fresh purpose.

What do you do for fun? Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

In my free time, I love working with my hands through woodworking projects, whether it’s building furniture, creating wall art, or refining the craft of joinery. Being outdoors is another big passion of mine. I enjoy boating, fishing, skiing, and hiking whenever I get the chance. Family time is also incredibly important to me, and much of my time is spent with my dog.
